The residence requirement for Australian citizenship by conferral is based on the time you have lived in Australia and the time you have spent outside Australia.
This calculator helps you estimate whether the general residence requirement appears to be met for the intended date of application.

General residence requirement
To be eligible for Australian citizenship by conferral, you must usually:
- have been living in Australia on a valid visa for 4 years immediately before the day you apply
- have held a permanent visa or eligible SCV for the last 12 months immediately before applying
- not have been absent from Australia for more than 12 months in the last 4 years
- not have been absent from Australia for more than 90 days in the last 12 months.
